The London Stock Exchange Group, in partnership with the Africa Development Bank Group, CDC Group and PwC, recently released a report titled “Companies to Inspire Africa 2017.” The report reveals a side of Africa’s business landscape most of the world has been blind to. It profiles hundreds of Africa’s most inspiring private, high-growth companies that have come to the attention of major global investors. The businesses profiled in this report boast an impressive average compound annual growth rate of 16%, and on average, each firm employs nearly 400 people. 12 percent of these high-growth companies are led by female entrepreneurs, which is three times the average for companies across Africa. This report clearly demonstrates that high-growth, private companies are fast becoming the driving force behind African economies, and not the commodity-driven continent the rest of the world sees.
